Peter's birthday tomorrow! He'll be at a dress rehearsal for the school play all day, so we had his party today. We've had some warm and sunny weather and so we set off from home with Peter and three friends all dressed in commando gear to have a celebration in the forest. Very Norwegian. We drove up to Bymarka, the skiing and hiking area near town, to find Tusseløypa, a fun kids' trail I'd visited in the fall.
I shouldn't have been surprised, but it was a bit jarring to see that Bymarka was still full of snow. The trail was treacherous, with thick ice on narrow bridges and slippery hills to navigate. We made it without incident to the picnic area and had the whole place to ourselves. We grilled hotdogs and a grilled dessert: marshmallows, chocolate, fruit and nuts, wrapped in foil and melted on the grill. The boys ran around, swinging on a rope over the river, building a fort, climbing trees, and playing 'camouflage', a new favorite game.
