Abel prize events in Trondheim

The Abel prize winner was in Trondheim yesterday, and I was part of the committee that organized events for kids in connection with the visit. 240 eighth graders came for a competition and a show. I organized the collaborative building of a giant tetrahedron from 1 meter long pvc pipes. It was huge and cool! I also gave an entertaining math show.

In the evening Pam and I attended a dinner at the Archbishop's palace with the Abel prize winner and all kinds of important folks.

Water balloon fight!

Pam has been into having water balloon fights with the kids. Perhaps in a bid to win "Mom-of-the-Year", she staged several battles with them this spring. They are all so very happy with this! Even though it cost a telephone.

Happy 17th of May!

It's Constitution Day, Norway's 4th of July if you will. We all put on our finest clothing and the kids marched in the parade downtown. Crowded, loud, musical, alive, awesome!

Happy birthday, Norway!

Darth Vader and free Legos

Darth Vader came to Toys R Us. That was enough to bring us out to Heimdal, but the free Lego giveaways weren't to shabby either. Thanks for the Lego, Your Darkness!

Boundary, by Maggie Naylor

For Maggie's 10th grade project, she wrote a graphic novel. It is really quite very very good, and though I would say that just because I'm her father, I would say even if I weren't. It is a fantasy story that you need to read several times to make sense of what is real and what is imagination and what happens when the boundary is crossed. (Buy a copy here!)

Here she is at the class' exhibit, showing kids how to use a graphic tablet to make artwork.
