Went to visit friends 2 hours west of Trondheim, at their hytte on Åstfjord. It was a lovely evening of wine and cards, and then we did some work on a book the next day before heading back. Pam went for a morning swim in the fjord... brrr! No thank you!

It was a lovely trip!

Håkon + Kark

Our neighbors were part of the outdoor theater show, Håkon + Kark which premiered in Lade this week. We attended the show... and were totally blown away.

The story follows the lives of Håkon, a young Viking chieftan, and his servant and friend Kark. The story is historical, and it happened right here in Lade (part of Trondheim), right in the area where the play was performed. As if the beautiful setting and historical story weren't enough, the stagecraft was phenomenal. There was a live orchestra, singers, horses, dancers, fire, swordplay, and a viking ship that floated into the harbor to begin the play. It all happened up close and all around.

This was an exceptional production which gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. We've been to several theatrical productions in Trondheim now, and every time I've been stunned. This is a very serious culture city and it shows.

Anna had her piano recital today, playing a jazzy blues number and the theme from Inspector Gadget. She's grown in leaps in bounds this year. Nice to see.

Secret canyons

Pam and I took a little trip to Sweden to go shopping. We can get cheap chicken and bacon and wine there. We stopped just short of the Swedish border to "air the dog" (Norwegian "å lufte hunden" = "to air the dog" = "'walk' the dog") and found this gorgeous spot with canyons and a waterfall.
